We’ve been waiting for so long for vehicles like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to have more units available. The supply chain shortages were supposed to ease up in 2023, but things don’t seem to be easing up. Now another assembly plant is extending its 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 production halt.

Due to a mysterious supply chain issue, things are slowing down for the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500. Automotive News shared that General Motors is extending the production halt of GMC and Chevrolet trucks at the Silao assembly plant in Mexico.
But General Motors didn’t share what’s causing the temporary production issue. However, it’s unrelated to the semiconductor chip shortage, so that’s good. The lack of those little chips has been causing headaches for months.
General Motors is also planning to idle production of GMC Silverado and Chevrolet Silverado trucks at the Fort Wayne, Indiana, plant to optimize inventory levels with dealerships. But doesn’t it mean if something is idled, then it’s not being used? How does not making trucks help?
Reportedly, the Mexican plant production pause isn’t related to the inventory optimizing inventory production levels.
General Motors Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson shared in January that GM was facing a few supply chain and logistical issues, but things were continuing in the right direction. Production should resume in Mexico by March 20, 2023.
How long is the wait for a 2023 Silverado?
In the best-case scenario, it takes about six to eight weeks to receive a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500. But those pesky supply chain and logistical issues might slow things down. Some people have been waiting between six to nine months.
The waiting times could be up to a year, depending on the make and model they ordered. For example, the Silverado TrailBoss is one of the more difficult options to come by.
Scheduled production dates for the Silverado 1500 could be pushed back due to supply constraints. General Motors would like to avoid a massive pile-up of incomplete trucks.
Some automakers, like Ford, stored incomplete models in parking lots, and the backlog could be seen from space! But semiconductor chips were added once they became available.
Perhaps things will get moving faster soon. General Motors has been working to improve production, capacity, and shipping. For example, GM purchased additional vehicle hauler capacity and contracted resources to deliver vehicles to dealerships.

The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is primarily a carryover model. It just got a refreshed exterior style and fresh interior updates for 2022. Plus, the Silverado 1500 ZR2 off-roading model made its debut.
However, the 2023 Silverado 1500 Duramax diesel engine gained significant upgrades to gain more power. The 3.0-liter inline-six turbo engine gained 28 hp and 35 lb-ft of torque. It cranks out 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.
It gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway. The diesel Silverado can tow up to 9,500 lbs. The gas-powered model can tow up to 13,300 lbs.
