Fresh teasers shown ahead of all-electric Audi off-road coupe’s debut on January 26
Audi has released a fresh teaser image and short video clip of the 2023 Audi Activesphere concept ahead of the all-wheel drive jacked-up four-door coupe’s unveiling on January 26.
Following on from the Audi Urbansphere people-mover concept, the luxurious Grandsphere concept and the two-door variable-wheelbase Skysphere, the Activesphere is the fourth and final member of the ‘Sphere’ family.
Featuring an expansive front screen, low-slung looks, flared wheel-arches and a supercar-inspired rear deck, there’s been plenty of stylistic links with the car-maker’s outgoing Audi R8.
And speaking of that rear deck area, the latest video reveals it can be converted to carry mountain bikes, highlighting the concept’s lifestyle aspirations.
At the rear, the short clip reveals a pair of slimline tail-lights joined by a thin light bar, plus an illuminated take on Audi’s interlinked ringed logo.
Up front, a pair of narrow headlights are believed to debut the brand’s next-generation Matrix LED tech.
Inside, a panoramic roof tease has revealed a sporty cabin with plenty of red accents.
Audi has previously said the Activesphere concept “combines extraordinary elegance with outstanding off-road performance”, suggesting any production version could be positioned as an unlikely zero-emissions alternative to the new breed of off-road sports cars like the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato.
Like the other Sphere concepts, the Activesphere is understood to be built using the Volkswagen Group’s advanced PPE platform.
That points to sophisticated autonomous driving tech and next-gen battery-electric powertrains that should see charging performance up to 270kW and a range of more than 750km with a large 120kWh battery fitted.
Watch out for full details following the Activesphere’s unveiling on Thursday.
