  • Volvo XC60 and XC90 Recharge plug-in hybrid recalled in Australia
  • Model-year 2022 and 2023 units affected
  • Internal-combustion engine could fail to restart while driving

Volvo Australia has issued recall notices for its XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a software issue.

The issue affects 925 units produced between 2021 and 2022, affecting model-year 2022 and 2023 vehicles.

According to the recall notice issued by the Department of Infrastructure, a software programming error in the engine control module could prevent the internal-combustion engine from restarting while driving.

As a result, Volvo says the vehicle could lose power if the high-voltage battery used by the hybrid system is depleted.

Volvo says the issue will be rectified through an over-the-air software update for the affected XC60 models, and MY23 XC90 vehicles.

Alternatively, if an owner does not wish to install the update or cannot do so, it can be taken to a dealership to resolve the fault.

The company can be contacted directly by calling 1300 787 802 or by visiting a dealership, found here.

A VIN list for the affected vehicles can be found here.
