Polestar, Volvo’s electric-vehicle subsidiary, announced plans to add three new models to its lineup in the next few years, hoping to make the brand more popular and increase sales. For the one model that is currently on sale, the 2 sedan, Polestar has announced that its new single-motor variant has been EPA estimated at 270 miles. And it’s soon adding more power to the dual-motor variant through an over-the-air update.
The 2’s Long Range single-motor model uses the same 75.0-kWh battery pack as the dual-motor version, and it provides 231 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. Its new 270-mile EPA rating puts it slightly above the Tesla Model 3’s Standard Range single-motor model, which is rated at 263 miles. Polestar is also rolling out a new update that improves the driver-assist features and allows owners to schedule charging.
Owners of the 2 Long Range dual-motor model will soon have the opportunity to gain 67 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque to increase output to 476 horsepower and 502 pound-feet. Polestar says that the over-the-air performance update will be available soon, and that pricing and availability will be announced in the next few months.
The Polestar 2 is on sale now starting at $47,200 for the Long Range single motor and $51,200 for the Long Range dual motor. Those starting prices make the Polestar only slightly more expensive than the Tesla Model 3.
