The 2022 Daihatsu Sirion facelift is marketed as the ‘real perfection’ and with this one feature not available in its Malaysian twin, we might have to agree with that. Despite having fewer safety features and only the smaller engine being offered, having Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard makes it superior to our .
Fully imported (CBU) from Malaysia, the Sirion is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.3-litre 1NR-VE DOHC DVVT-i (95 PS/119 Nm) paired to a D-CVT gearbox across two variants:
- Sirion X CVT – IDR 227.6 million (~RM 69k)
- Sirion R CVT – IDR 236.8 million (~RM 72k)
Besides having superior car connectivity, the Sirion is more or less similar to its Malaysian royal superstar. It comes with 15-inch alloy wheels as standard but is missing out on DRLs which makes the straight housing in the front bumper a tad bit empty. Maybe a trip to the Indonesian Brothers/Mr DIY/Shopee Motorsports could fix that.
Seamless connectivity on a Myv…Sirion
Other standard features on the Indonesian Sirion include:
- Automatic headlights
- Fabric seats
- Digital infotainment with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity
- Auto-lock
- Digital air-conditioning
- Idle stop system
Besides the bodykits that surround the bottom of the Sirion and the rear spoiler, the R variant gets a 4.2-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster while the X gets a standard LCD display. It’s worth noting that the colourful display is only offered on the top-of-the-line Myvi 1.5 AV here.
Other features only found on the R variant are:
- Front corner sensors
- Auto folding mirrors
- Air purifier
Despite the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the ADAS suite that is even found on the base Myvi in Malaysia never made it into the Indonesian Sirion. Instead, it comes with standard passive safety features such as:
- Front and side airbags
- Hill-Start Assist
- ABS and EBD
- VSC and TRC
At the press conference, a spokesperson from Daihatsu said that the ADAS features were dropped to accommodate for the Sirion’s pricing. They added that most Indonesian buyers in the Sirion’s target market weren’t as concerned about safety features.
The Daihatsu Sirion might lose out on the safety front compared to the Perodua Myvi but it made it up with car connectivity that is certainly far less clunky than what’s available here. The Myvi might be the next standard but is the Sirion a real perfection?
