Cupra Australia has detailed the standard specification – but not pricing – of its most important launch model, the performance-focused Formentor small SUV, which is set to enter local showrooms in July with a four-strong line-up, including a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option.
The Formentor’s entry-level version is the 140kW/320Nm V 4Drive, which is motivated by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, matching the mid-range 180kW/370Nm VZ and flagship 221kW/400Nm VZx 4Drive. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) is shared, too.
Meanwhile, the mid-range VZe PHEV combines a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with an 85kW/300Nm front-mounted electric motor to deliver a combined 180kW/400Nm. It uses a six-speed DCT.
As their names suggest, the V 4Drive and VZx 4Drive have Cupra’s 4Drive all-wheel-drive system, while the VZ and VZe send drive to their front wheels only, offering variety to would-be Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Lexus UX buyers.
The V 4Drive comes with an extensive features list, including adaptive suspension, metallic paintwork, LED lights, rain-sensing wipers, black/silver 18-inch Sport alloy wheels (with a space-saver spare), power-folding side mirrors with heating and dark-chrome caps, puddle lights, keyless entry and rear privacy glass.
Inside, keyless start, a 12.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless smartphone charger, tri-zone climate control, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with heating, front sports seats, cloth upholstery and an auto-dimming rearview mirror feature.
Advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep and steering assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, high-beam assist, driver attention alert, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring, park assist, a reversing camera and safe exit alert.
The VZ upgrades to black/silver 19-inch Sport alloy wheels, while the VZe gets the same set but trades the otherwise space-saver spare for a tyre repair kit.
Elsewhere, the VZx 4Drive also adds black/copper 19-inch Performance alloy wheels, a power tailgate, quad exhaust tailpipes, a 340W Beats sound system with nine speakers, a sports steering wheel, heated front seats (including driver power adjustment and memory functionality) and Petrol Blue leather upholstery.
Options for the V 4Drive, VZ and VZe include the Leather and Power Package, which bundles in a power tailgate, heated front seats (including driver power adjustment and memory functionality) and leather upholstery.
A panoramic sunroof is a standalone option for all variants, while the VZx can also level up with a Brembo brakes package, which substitutes in the tyre repair kit.
