Following its appearance via the patent office and China’s MIIT earlier this year, the 2022 BYD Han EV is now available in China. The new Han EV features a fresh design and several upgrades over the original electric sedan that broke cover in May 2020, including a bigger battery and better range.
Design & Features

The 2022 BYD Han EV doesn’t look visibly different from the original Han EV at the front. BYD has used a curvier bumper with C-shaped gloss black trim on the outer ends and a taller lower air intake. The company offers many new alloy wheel options for a new look on the sides. The rear looks noticeably different, mainly because of a slimmer full-width tail lamp with inverted outer ends. The updated model features a cleaner and sportier rear bumper, too.
Interior
The interior of the Han EV hasn’t changed much. The overall design is the same. BYD has added a head-up display and improved the user interface of the central touchscreen. Unlike the original Han EV, the company has used wood grain trim on the center console. The seats are new at both front and rear and feature integrated headrests. Lastly, the stitching pattern on the seats is also unique.

BYD doesn’t have a current plan to launch cars in the U.S., but one famous American has a vested interest. Warren Buffett, the world’s fifth-richest person, invested USD 232 million in BYD through Berkshire Hathaway in late 2008. By late 2018, the value of his investment rose to a whopping USD 1.6 billion. The growth continued further, and as of the end of 2020, Buffet’s company held 225 million BYD shares worth USD 5.9 billion!
