Pricing and specs for the 2021 Genesis G70 have been announced ahead of the car’s imminent local launch. Priced from $63,000 plus on-road costs, the G70 has moved up in pricing by $3,700 thanks to the addition of more standard kit, including a new 10.25-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, three new airbags – including a front centre unit – and a wider range of active safety features.
“We are delighted to introduce new 2021 G70, which ushers in newly sporty, dynamic design, refined performance, advanced technology and uncompromising safety,” Genesis Motors Australia Chief Executive Officer, Jun Heo said.
Stylistically, the 2021 Genesis G70 has had a large facelift with new front and rear styling that incorporates the new Genesis styling theme – including the split front and rear lighting, which is more aggressive than before for a sportier look. The cabin has changed less than the exterior, with upgrades limited to a new centre screen and new trim options.
For Australia, the available drivetrains for the 2021 Genesis G70 are relatively unchanged. The 179kW/353Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine powers the 2.0T variant, while the 3.3T is powered by a 275kW/510Nm twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre petrol V6. Both are rear-wheel drive only and both are matched to eight-speed automatic transmissions. The V6 also features a bi-model exhaust, which is new for 2021.
While six variants were previously available in the G70 range, the 2021 model has reduced that to just two: the 2.0T and 3.3T Sport. Standard kit on the 2.0T is lengthy, and includes 19-inch alloy wheels, all-LED lighting, auto lights and wipers, leather upholstery, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with both heating and ventilation, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation with live traffic reports, digital radio, keyless entry and start, a panoramic sunroof, a nine-speaker sound system, an auto-dimming rear mirror and dual-zone climate control.
Standard safety kit includes 10 airbags (including front centre and rear side units), auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and even intersection support, lane keep assist with lane trace assist, blind-spot monitoring with a camera, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, auto high beam, a 360-degree parking camera, safe exit warning, driver attention monitoring, multi-collision braking and rear occupant alert.
For a further $4,000, buyers of the 2.0T can select the Sport Pack that is standard on the 3.3T. This adds a limited-slip differential, four-piston front and two-piston rear Brembo brakes, dark 19-inch alloy wheels, a dark chrome grille and window surround, sports seats, a suede headlining, alloy pedals and aluminium trim inserts.
The $10,000 Luxury Package for both variants adds a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a heads-up display, a 15-speaker Lexicon sound system, Nappa leather upholstery, the suede headlining, an electrically adjustable steering column, forward attention warning, an acoustic laminated windscreen and front door glass, Matrix headlights, a heated steering wheel and rear seats and a 16-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory functionality.
