About the Renault Koleos
Bk purchased this Renault Koleos new for $28,500 (including all on-road costs). Bk wouldn’t buy this car again because: “Renault’s terrible after sales customer service left us regretting ever wanting to buy a Renault. We have owned Renaults for almost 20 years, when something goes wrong with these cars you need a lawyer, even when the car is still under the warranty period. Renault Australia simply don’t care.”
How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.
The Koleos has done 45,000 km and has been reasonably reliable. Up until June this year where it went into limp mode without notice and had to be towed back to Renault.
The dealer struggled to diagnose the issue, and spent about 6 weeks throwing parts at it until it was fixed. Parts came from France as Renault doesn’t hold those parts in Australia. It was all a bit of a mess.
The car is based on the previous-generation Nissan X-Trail which is why we bought it, thinking it would be as reliable as our previous Nissan Tiida. But time is proving this not to be the case.
What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?
Servicing has been relative easy with a yearly visit to Renault for a capped price service, the price of the services is reasonable, but not cheap.
The dealerships are friendly and helpful. However in the event something goes wrong with your new Renault strap yourself in and enjoy the ride! Renault Australia are the most difficult manufacturer we have ever dealt with, and this unfortunately has ruined our love of this car.
How has the purchase and aftercare experience been with your car?
As mentioned earlier, Renault Australia has shocking customer service.
I think its important for any consumer planning on purchasing a Renault product that in the event something goes wrong with their new Renault, Renault Australia will drag you around the playground by your hair for months while they mis-diagnose the problem and order parts from France for a car that’s built in Korea.
Renault’s customer service is simply a disaster.
Are you happy with the price and features of your car?
The whole package is a great value for money, the car has great standard features. The higher up you go in the trim levels, the more you get.
I love the massaging seats in the Intens model, as well as the sunroof. I do think this is one of the best value SUV on the market today.
What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?
The Koleos gets fantastic fuel economy, for a SUV the size of the Koleos to get fuel economy similar to a Nissan Tiida shows how well the 2.5 engine and the CVT transmission work together. Its a great combination, and makes for a amazingly fuel efficient car.
What do you think of the technology in your car?
The Renault R-LINK isn’t the best unit out there. A system in a Hyundai or Kia is much better.
Also the system glitches a lot and has needed to be replaced. We found the R-Link in the hire car that Renault gave us was glitching as well, and that car only had 800km on it.
The speakers in the Life and Zen Koleos aren’t the best, but the Bose system in the Intens is brilliant.
What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?
It’s a beautiful car to drive, I would happily drive this car around Australia. It’s comfortable, solid and just cruises down long country roads.
The road noise is next to nothing, the seats in the Life are comfortable, but the fake leather seats in the Zen are pretty hard.
Do you have any additional comments about your car?
Our family has been long time Renault owners, but this Koleos will be our last Renault.
