Engineering tweaks like sodium-filled exhaust valves, reshaped intake valves, and a redesigned intake manifold combined to gain 10 horsepower over the previous V6. Nissan opted not to bless the Maxima with direct fuel injection for 2016, which would increase throttle response if not overall horsepower.
