Consumer Reports is sometimes at odds with the internet masses regarding what they think of certain cars. However, with its system, it believes it gets it right on the money concerning owner satisfaction, which judges or predicts what drivers will think of their car purchase after some use. Getting a car with a low CR rating but high predicted owner satisfaction is possible. However, in this case, here are the two electric vehicles (EVs) that CR reviewers believe owners will like just as much as they did.

What the owner satisfaction category judges in cars

We surveyed car owners to find the most satisfying vehicles on the road.
Rounding out the top 3 were the Tesla Model 3, Kia Telluride, and Tesla Model S.

— Consumer Reports (@ConsumerReports) February 4, 2021

The owner satisfaction rating is a combination of four subcategories, i.e., comfort levels, value for money, car styling, and driving experience. That said, unlike the road test rating, which involves in-house car testers and reviewers, CR surveys previous buyers to find out whether, given a second chance, they would consider buying the same car.

It’s possible for a car with a low Consumer Reports road test score to have a high predicted owner satisfaction, such as with the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. Nevertheless, the key comfort features that the survey looks into are the ride quality, noise in the cabin, seats, and climate control. As for the driving experience, car buyers give feedback on whether they’re satisfied with the handling and acceleration.

The styling section questions how satisfied buyers are with the car’s looks. Lastly, the value section checks whether car owners feel ripped off or if they got sufficient bang for their buck.

The predicted driver satisfaction for the Tesla Model 3

The 2022 Tesla Model 3 is one of the few electric cars with a perfect predicted owner satisfaction score on Consumer Reports. Since it’s a compact electric sports sedan, it has none of the body roll that’s characteristic of larger vehicles. Also, the quick steering response means it can easily navigate twisty roads.

Acceleration is another of the Model 3’s strong suits due to the all-important instant torque readily available with EVs. In fact, it manages to go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds on the reviewer’s test track, something that most drivers should have no problem with. As such, Tesla gets a near-perfect score on the driving experience from buyers.

Comfort is a mixed bag, with one of the downsides being a choppy ride. Buyers may also hear some wind and road noise due to the glass roof and the fact that there’s no engine noise. On the other hand, the driver’s seat is sufficiently supportive with additional four-way lumbar support.

Also, there are automatic modes for climate control with a dual-zone automatic climate system. Heated seats could improve comfort levels and are available as an option.

Styling is another one of the high-satisfaction areas for previous buyers, with about 80% liking the looks of the car.

While a few may feel they overpaid for the EV, they still rate the electric vehicle high enough in the three other areas to be satisfied overall.

The predicted driver satisfaction for the Porsche Taycan

2 excellent 2022 electric cars that consumer reports predicts owners will love

2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S in pink | Porsche/VW Group Media

As for Porsche’s premier electric vehicle, Consumer Reports finds that about 80% of buyers are likely to be satisfied with the 2022 Porsche Taycan. The car clocked a 4-second 0-60 mph time on CR’s drag strip, and with few people having problems with the Tesla’s acceleration, even fewer should be bothered by the Porsche. Additionally, its chassis remains poised on a twisty road showing off some impressive body control and responsive steering.

Ride quality is another impressive trait, with the all-electric Taycan absorbing road imperfections with ease. As for the seat comfort, the rear may be a bit limited in space. However, for the driver and front passenger, seats are well bolstered with lumbar adjustments and an extendable front of the seat cushion.

The dual-zone climate systems seem to have no functionality issues, and like the Tesla, heated seats are an option. Of course, buyers who get them should find the Taycan more comfortable.

Lastly, Porsche designs are loved worldwide, and it’s no different for this model, although the hefty price tag may leave a few feeling slighted. Nevertheless, it’s improbable that you’ll find many wanting their money back.
