1967 BUICK SKYLARK GS NAME GAME
The Grand Sport ceased to be an option package on the Buick Skylark lineup (ie: Skylark GS), and became it’s own stand-alone model, the Buick Grand Sport. For 1967, they became called “GS” and whatever the engine displacement was, in cubic inches. So, the GS400 had a 400ci V8, in this case from a new family of 400 V8s, quite advanced from the ancient “Nailhead” V8 it replaced.
1967 BUICK SKYLARK GS ENGINE OPTIONS
Besides the GS400, there was also the GS340, added early in the model year with 260hp 340 small block V8. It didn’t sell well in the face of withering competition from Ford, Chrysler, and it’s fellow GM divisions, selling less than 4,000 units. Buick quickly replaced it with the GS350. 4,933 GS350s and 7,532 GS400s were sold in the 1967 model year.
