1963 Corvette Emerges From Long-Term Storage With Tons of Dust
Yet another cool barn find worth celebrating.
Dusty but Notable
While the 1963 Corvette coupe – or the split-window, as it’s otherwise known – remains a hot commodity among collectors as a quirky, one-year-only body style. However, the drop-top version of that same machine is also quite desirable, which keeps barn hunters on the prowl for any old fiberglass they can come across. The latest find comes to us from YouTuber OnJunk4Life, who found this very dusty 1963 Corvette convertible recently.
Long Term Storage
The C2 was discovered sitting in a garage surrounded by junk and various car parts, which is pretty typical. Covered by some heavy dust, it’s clearly been sitting here for a significant amount of time, though it’s unclear just how long ago the owner parked it and left it.
Fairly Common
Regardless, this is a truly excellent find as an original Tuxedo Black drop-top, even if it isn’t particularly rare as one of 10,000 or so produced in this particular model year. Equipped with its original 327 V8 and four-speed manual transmission, this is certainly a Corvette worth removing from storage and returning to the road.
Refresh and Forget
Around 30 years ago, the owner of this Corvette gave it a refresh, but then didn’t want it to get messed up, so he parked it in the garage. However, it seems as if he simply forgot about it after that, leaving it behind for decades and letting it deteriorate, though it’s obviously not in the worst condition.
Some Questions
It’s unclear which version of the 327 is present in this car, and that would make a big difference in its value, of course. But with a black-on-black color combo, it will certainly be a desirable find if it ever winds up for sale or on the auction block at some point in the future.
Second Chance
In this case, the C2 is being removed from its long-term resting place and will soon be cleaned up and tuned up, hitting the road once again after decades of neglect. Thus, this story has a happy ending, though it remains to be seen what will ultimately become of this cool barn find.
