As the world increasingly moves to electric powertrains and efficiency starts to play a more significant role in purchase decisions, sedans are set to regain some of the popularity they have lost over the last decade. Here are 15 upcoming electric sedans arriving in the U.S. by 2025:

2026 Audi E4 (Audi A4 Electric)

An Audi A4 Electric or an Audi E4 is expected to join the four-ringed brand’s line-up by 2025. It would be a midsize electric sedan that offers global customers an alternative to the Tesla Model 3, Mercedes C-Class Electric, Nio ET5, etc. Little is known about this model so far, but there are rumors in the media that it would borrow the PPE platform from the Audi E6 and could come in S and RS flavors.

2024 Audi E6 (Audi A6 Electric)

Audi’s mega-launch in 2024 would be a Tesla Model S rival called Audi E6 that could prove to be a big hit in the U.S. and China. Based on the PPE platform, it would feature a sleek and high-tech design very similar to the Audi A6 e-tron concept from Auto Shanghai 2021. Expect a 100 kWh battery pack that provides an EPA-est. range of up to approximately 350 miles. Audi has hinted that it will offer an RS variant that accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in less than four seconds. An Audi A6 e-tron Avant (Audi E6 Avant) is also in the pipeline but may not make it to the U.S.

2025 BMW 3 Series Electric

BMW fans would already know that a BMW 3 Series Electric (BMW i3 sedan) already exists, but that’s a China-only model. Global markets, including the U.S., will receive a different BMW 3 Series electric in 2025. Unlike the Chinese spec, the global BMW 3 Series electric will be Neue Klasse platform-based model designed from the ground up to be an EV with advanced capabilities.

2024 BMW i5 (BMW 5 Series Electric)

A BMW 5 Series Electric is in the making, and its introduction in Europe is locked in for 2023. Reports say it will arrive as BMW i5, and without a doubt, the U.S. would be one of its key markets worldwide. The line-up could include an eDrive40 single-motor RWD variant, an xDrive40 dual-motor AWD variant, and an M50 performance dual-motor AWD variant. The M50 variant’s motors could produce more than 400 kW (536 hp) and an 80.7 kWh battery pack delivering an EPA-est. range close to 300 miles. The BMW i5 will compete with the Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQE, Audi E6, and Nio ET7. Additionally, it is reported that a BMW i5 Touring (Estate) is also planned.

The seventh-gen BMW 7 Series family includes a first-ever BMW i7 electric sedan. The all-electric full-size BMW is coming to the U.S. in an xDrive60 variant in Q4 2022 (October-December 2022). Interested customers can place a pre-order with a deposit of USD 1,500. The price of the flagship BMW electric sedan is USD 119,300 (plus USD 995 destination).

The i7 xDrive60 uses two motors, one at each axle, producing a combined power of 536 hp and an overall torque of 549 lb.-ft. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds (estimated figure) and continue to 149 mph. A 101.7 kWh battery pack is standard, and BMW expects it to provide an EPA-est. range of up to 300 miles.

2023 Cadillac Celestiq

The Cadillac Celestiq will be the brand’s new symbol of opulence, offering a plethora of new cutting-edge technologies, new levels of comfort and convenience, and an advanced emission-free powertrain. The new flagship Cadillac sedan will arrive with features like SmartGlass Nanotechnology roof, Ultra Cruise, Ultium Energy Recovery, and more. It could have an impressive EPA-est. range of up to 400 miles. It could compete with the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air. The world premiere of the ultimate Cadillac sedan will reportedly take place in June 2022.

2024 Dodge Electric Muscle Car

The Dodge Electric Muscle Car would be the brand’s first EV. It will debut in a concept version by August 2022 and go on sale sometime in 2024. It should sit on the STLA Large platform and thus have a battery pack with 101-118 kWh energy storage capacity. There are rumors of a tri-motor AWD powertrain, with two motors powering the rear wheels and one motor spinning the front wheels. The Fratzog logo will make a comeback in Dodge cars, beginning with this model.

2023 Genesis Electrified G80

The Genesis Electrified G80 on sale in South Korea will arrive in the U.S. in Summer 2022. It has an 87.2 kWh battery pack that could provide it an EPA-est. range of around 250 miles. A 272 kW (364 hp)/516 lb.-ft. dual-motor AWD powertrain that allows a quick 0-62 mph acceleration in 4.9 seconds is standard. The Electrified G80 features V2L, allowing customers to supply the battery pack’s stored energy externally.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 would be the South Korean automaker’s Tesla Model 3 challenger. Featuring a futuristic design with some retro design cues, the Hyundai Prophecy concept’s production version will likely have a 77.4 kWh battery pack that gives it an EPA-est. range of around 320 miles. An Ioniq 6 N with two motors generating 430 kW (576 hp) and 596 lb.-ft. could be one of the available configurations. This high-performance variant may take around 3.5 seconds for a 0-60 mph sprint. The Ioniq 6 is among one of the most anticipated upcoming electric sedan models in the U.S.

2025 Infiniti electric sedan

On February 17, 2022, Nissan confirmed an Infiniti electric sedan is in the pipeline and will arrive in 2025. The company plans to manufacture the electric sedan at its Canton plant in Mississippi, USA. During the announcement by Ashwani Gupta, the Chief Operating Officer of Nissan Motor Corporation, the company released a teaser of the Infiniti electric sedan, showing features like a full-width LED tail lamp, a curvy roofline, a block-lettered brand logo at the rear, and a ducktail spoiler.

2024 Lotus Type 133

The Lotus Type 133 will be an E-segment electric sedan taking on the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S Plaid. Based on the Lotus Eletre‘s Electric Premium Architecture, the Type 133 electric sedan could have a high system voltage of 800 volts that allows ultra-fast or rapid charging on direct current. Expect a 0-60 mph sprint to take just around 2.5 seconds in the four-door Lotus electric car.

2025 Nissan electric sedan

The Nissan electric sedan will be a technical cousin of the Infiniti electric sedan, also built in Canton (Mississippi), USA, and due in 2025. Nissan had teased the exterior of this model during its Ambition 2030 presentation on November 29, 2021, hinting at a low-slung body with a coupe-style roofline, full-width front and rear lights, and a block-lettered Nissan logo at the rear. The sedan will be designed for the American market.

2023 Mercedes EQE

The Mercedes EQE is a smaller and more affordable alternative to EQS and also a zero-emissions alternative to the E-Class. Based on the EVA2 platform like the EQS, it will come in an EQE 350+ variant with a 90 kWh battery pack that could provide an EPA-est. range of more than 300 miles. A single motor producing 288 hp and 391 lb.-ft. of torque powers the rear wheels. Expected to cost around USD 70,000 onwards and reach dealers in late 2022, the Mercedes EQE would rival the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air.

2025 Polestar 5

The Polestar 5 will be a luxury electric four-door GT that brings the Polestar Precept concept to reality. It will target performance and tech enthusiasts, those on the lookout for something like the Porsche Taycan, Lotus Type 133 and even the Audi e-tron GT. Polestar will build it on a newly-developed bonded aluminum platform, and it expects this car to deliver a range of more than 600 km (373 miles) on the WLTP cycle. The EPA-est. range could be just over 300 miles. The company has scheduled the start of production at the end of 2024, which means it could conduct the U.S. launch in the first half of 2025.

2024 VW Aero

The VW Aero will be a midsize electric sedan that serves as the successor to the Passat sedan in the U.S. and Europe. Based on the MEB platform, it will have a “super-aerodynamic design” and provide a range of around 700 km or 435 miles (presumably on the WLTP cycle), Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter said at the Volkswagen Annual Media Conference 2022 on March 16, 2022. A concept version will premiere before 2022, and the production version could reach U.S. dealers in 2024. Expect the starting price to be upwards of USD 45,000.
